Now I have regular headaches/migraines that usually happen after I wake up late or not drink enough water or excercise too much. It only happens to the back left side of my head with a sharp pain and a throbbing in my left eye as if someone is hitting it from the inside with a hammer. They last the entire day. Could you please tell me what this is and how I could prevent/get rid of it?

I get the ones on my eye too, I always say it feels like a small person is sitting on my eye haha. In order to prevent it I would say drinking water and staying hydrated is key, especially with exercise. Also stay away from caffeine as often as possible, and try eating healthier. If that still isn’t helping just remember that the Internet is always full of helpful information.

What Is It Wednesday?

thatmword:

This week’s topic: TENSION HEADACHES.

What is it?
This is the most COMMON type of headache, a mild to moderate pain that feels like a band around the head. If you ever get a “normal” headache, this is probably what you have.

How do I know if I have them?

If you have a tension headache, you’ll probably feel any of the following:

constant, dull pain, usually mild to moderate pain

not incapacitating

pain is often accompanied by muscle tightness in the shoulders and neck

often on both sides of the head

may last an hour, a week, or anywhere in between

pain sometimes described as a “band” around the head

Over the counter medicines (taken correctly) are generally used to treat these. As always, you should check with your doctor and not take my word for it.

Why are you talking about tension headaches on a migraine blog?

Some people say they have a “migraine” when what they really mean is a tension headache. Here are the symptoms that make migraine different:

throbbing, intense pain, generally moderate to severe

often disabling

usually one sided, often near the eye of the affected side

sometimes get visual disturbances/extreme sensitivity to light and sound

may last hours, days, or weeks

stronger medications might be needed to “break the cycle,” such as an emergency room visit or hospitalization

Fun Fact:

According to the American Pain Foundation, 90% of headaches that aren’t caused by a disease are tension headaches.

Caffeine is the most commonly used mood-altering drug in the world, and coffee is one of the most popular means of ingesting it. Over 50% of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis, and that figure is thought to be increasing every year.

But there’s more to coffee than its caffeine content, and scientists are perpetually trying to make sense of the various effects that this mysterious brew has on our bodies. Coffee’s most recent brush with media attention came just a few weeks ago, with the release of a study that showed women who drank four cups of coffee per day had a 20% lower risk of depression than those who drank a cup or less per week. But coffee isn’t always billed as a wonder beverage; caffeinated and decaffeinated versions alike have built up a pretty serious rap sheet over the years. Here are 10 reasons coffee is either an elixir of the gods, or an evil concoction we’ve all been duped into loving unconditionally.

Some of my migraines used to simulate stroke symptoms. He advised me to take some OTC drugs and I went from 20 epic headaches a year to one or two very minor ones.

I know it's tough. I've had chronic migraines for a year now. I have had the occasional break for a week or two but it's still there. I have thought about suicide, but it's all a matter of realizing there has to be something out there, somewhere, that will help. You need a support system, family, friends, online people. I've been to a doctor and had bloodwork but nothing has been conclusive. I've also been going to a chiropractor. Nothing takes the edge off, I've tried advil, tylenol, caffeine, cutting out caffeine, cutting out chocolate, pretty much everything. I'm 15, or maybe 15 1/2 i dont remember, could it be hormonal considering I've never gotten a period? I seriously can't take it anymore I just wanna kill myself sometimes.

Try to keep your attitude positive, and maybe try your best at some stress relieving techniques and continue seeing a doctor.
We know that soda (or pop, if you live where I do) is bad for migraines, according to, basically everyone.
